Abetone here we come
In search of some snow this past Saturday, we headed to Abetone in the province of Pistoia. You would never know with the beautiful sun shining that there would be chilly winds and cold snow awaiting us just around the bend!
It took closer to two hours since I made Davide drive like a snail on the windy road up the mountain. Can’t help it, me and those darn curvy roads don’t get along.
Layer Up
As soon as we layered Julienne up, she jumped right in and started making snowballs. She was in love with the white stuff!
First Snowman
After we put the finishing touches on Julienne’s snowman, we were cold and our tummies were begging for some warm treats.
Ski Lift
We weren’t sure how it would be taking Julienne up the ski lift, but it was perfectly safe. Davide had her in the carrier and they helped us on & off. Juli was very good, no bouncing or tantrums (whoop!). It was a 15 minute ride up to the Rifugio (lodge) and the cost was €15 roundtrip for two people up the lift (no skiing).
Hello Skiers
We stopped to watch the skiers go down the mountain before we rushed into the Rifugio La Selletta to grab some grub.
Rifugio La Selletta
We ordered the polenta and spezzatino di capriolo (roe deer stew), fried polenta with fries and an apple strudel for Julienne. Yes, it was delicious.
A little R & R
You can also bring your own food and eat outside while catching some rays on their lawn chairs. We sat outside relaxing while Julienne collected snow.
Goodbye snowy mountains
Then it was time to head back down the mountain. What a wonderful Saturday, time to say “bye-bye,” Julienne. We will miss you snow!
Baby looks more and more like you, Jackie! Looks like a great family day. If you visit, you’d never need to go far to find snow.
Really you think so? Davide keeps saying she looks like you!
omg that food!!!
I know! Chelsea, you would’ve loved that polenta.
