If my waistline wasn’t expanding a mile a minute, I would love to pull off the summery crop tops that are popping up all over the place. Pair it with a skirt and it’s easy to go from beach to dinner for the perfect summer style.
With the warmer weather, we probably eat healthier since our meals consist of a lot of salads. Who wants to turn on the oven or cook near a hot flame?
Can you say, sweatfest!
Here is a happy salad we made this week. It consisted of 1/2 head of lettuce as the base, 2 beets cubed, 1/2 cucumber sliced and quartered, 1 yellow bell pepper diced, a handful of cherry tomatoes quartered, 1 small can of corn (heated up on the stovetop) and 3 small radishes shredded to top it off. Sometimes we will also add a can of tuna for some protein.
Italian Style Dressing
If you know Italians, we don’t do dressing… instead, we just add a bit of extra virgin olive oil, a dash of balsamic vinegar, salt to taste and a dash of sugar (yes, sugar!). Mix and enjoy!
What is your favorite springtime salad?
Mosquitoes in Florence
OMG, really, really… mosquitoes in Florence, even in January!? Today in the kitchen, Julienne and I spied this mosquito just hanging out, probably planning her nasty blood sucker attack on us. Thought you were safe in Florence from these little silent buzz buzz bugs just because it’s cold outside… well, think again!
My advice: If you plan on visiting Florence, Italy…whatever the season, bring along your mosquito repellent! (:
Saremar Ferry to Carloforte
Our last weekend in Sardegna, we took a short trip to Carloforte, the small port town on the San Pietro Island. Once you reach Portovesme, the south-western port of Sardegna, the Saremar Ferry will take you to the island in under an hour.
The ferry boat stops directly in the main port of Carloforte where you can find pretty much everything from restaurants, shops and bars.
Le Spiaggie di Carloforte
Carloforte has excellent beaches, both sandy and rocky, the three areas we love to go swimming are Cala Spalmatore, Spiaggia Bobba and Cala Fico.
Cala Spalmatore is one of the most popular beaches on the island, it is easy to see why with the beautiful stretch of sandy beach and clear water. The shallow water and soft sand definitely make this a great beach for kids.
